5 Healthy Habits for Better Sleep

Because quality sleep matters.......

Today is World Sleep Day! This day is meant to raise awareness around the importance of sleeping well.


Did you know that poor sleep can affect your body weight, slow your metabolism, decrease productivity & mental alertness, weaken your immune system, make you feel lethargic and tired, mess up your hormones etc.?


Sleep is something that is absolutely free yet we all take it for granted. Getting a good night's sleep is as important to optimal health as eating right and exercising.


So, today I'm sharing with you 5 Healthy Habits for Better Sleep that will improve the quality of your life

1. STRETCH A LITTLE BEFORE BEDTIME:

Doing a few light stretches just before bedtime is a great way to unwind and relax your body. This puts the body into a parasympathetic state and helps you get into rest mode.


2. DRINK A CUP OF WARM HERBAL TEA:


Warm cup of tea is one of my favorite ways to relax before bedtime. Herbal teas have been used for centuries as natural sleep remedies. Some of my favorite teas for a good night's sleep are Chamomile, Lavender and Fennel Tea. These herbs work by modifying certain neurotransmitters that help initiate sleep.


3. NO SCREEN HALF AN HOUR BEFORE BEDTIME:


Well, research actually suggests '2 hours before bedtime' but let's face it, it's not practical. Most of us work or spend time on social media after we are done with all the chores so 2 hours before bedtime may not be possible. But simply turning off your phone/laptop half an hour before bedtime may significantly improve the quality of your sleep.


4. READ A BOOK INSTEAD:


Reading is not just a great hobby but is also a great stress reducer. It can be helpful in accelerating the time it takes to fall asleep.


5. TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TAKE FEW DEEP BREATHS:


Turning off lights or dimming the lights gives your brain a signal that it is time to sleep. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relieve any stress you might have accumulated through the day and simply drift off to sleep.


Sleep is extremely essential for our health. so make sure you do not underestimate the power of good, quality sleep and work towards sleeping well at night, every day!
