Cardamom & Rose Hot Chocolate

A winter-time treat that feels like a warm hug in a mug!

One of the best things about winter for me, is cozying up by the fire with a book and a big mug of hot chocolate. While it's delicious, most store-bought hot chocolate mix are filled with lots of sugar, 'natural flavors' and other preservatives.

My version is made with clean, real food ingredients and is ready in minutes. It's light yet deliciously decadent. The Cardamom and rose add a wonderful aroma and bring out the chocolatey goodness of the cacao.

I make this Cardamom & Rose hot chocolate at least once or twice a week during colder months. I try to keep it light by using oat milk(my favorite!) or almond milk so I can enjoy it guilt-free.

Servings: 2

  • Pour the milk into a sauce pan on medium-low heat

  • Add the dark chocolate, cacao powder and whisk until well-combined.

  • Add the cardamom powder and allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes. DO NOT BOIL.

  • Turn off stove and add rose nectar and sweetener of your choice. I've used honey.

  • Pour into mugs and top with Coconut whipped cream (recipe below) and chocolate shavings.

  • Sip slowly and enjoy!

  • Use any milk of your choice. I used a combination of 1 cup oat milk and 1/2 whole milk. But this recipe tastes just as great with any nut or plant-based milk.

  • Use good quality dark chocolate. I use 70% dark chocolate.

  • If you don't have rose nectar, use vanilla extract. But the rose does add a little zing to this recipe. I've linked the brand I love.

  • To make Coconut Whipped Cream, simply place a can of full-fat coconut milk in the fridge for a few hours. Pull out the can from the fridge and remove the top creamy part. Add powdered sugar (I didn't) and whip until soft peaks are formed.

  • You can make a big batch of this and store in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Hope you guys enjoy this recipe as much as we do! If you like it, please tag me on Instagram. I love seeing your recipes 💕
