Gulkand Mango Oatmeal (Rose Mango Oatmeal)
Oatmeal is one of our favorite breakfasts. The kids love it and I often make different variations of it like Chocolate Oatmeal, Banana Oatmeal, etc. Lately we’ve been obsessed with this Gulkand oatmeal.

Gulkhand (Rose-Petal Jam) is made with rose petals, fennel and sugar. Rose petals have been considered "Herbs" in Ayurvedic medicine and Unani medicine for centuries now and have been used in formulations to treat various health issues. Below are some of the health benefits of Rose Petals/ Gulkand:
Rose petals are rich in terpenes, glycosides, flavonoids, and anthocyanins - meaning, they have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging effects on the body.
They act as a natural coolant - help regulate body temperature during hot summer months
They have laxative & pro kinetic effects - help relieve constipation
Ophthalmic Effect - Are good for your eyesight
Gulkand is mainly used as a digestive aid, which is why it is one of the main ingredients in “Paan” (Betal leaves that are chewed on after a heavy meal). Gulkand can also be consumed as is as well.
Today's recipe includes combining 2 ingredients that are great for your gut - oatmeal, which full of fiber and gulkand, which is a digestive powerhouse. The combination is potent and will help things move easily in your GI tract.
This recipe is super easy to make and can be made in a sauce pan, Instant Pot or microwave. The combination of mangoes, oatmeal and gulkand is super delicious and believe me when I say this, it literally tastes like kheer.
MANGO GULKAND OATMEAL
Ingredients:
Rolled Oats - 1 cup
Raisins - 1 tbsp (Optional)
Water - 1 cup
Plant-based milk - 1 cup
Salt - a pinch
Toppings:
Gulkand - 1 tsp
Mangoes - 2 tbsp, chopped
Flax seeds - 1 tsp
Peanut butter - 1tbsp
Pumpkin seeds - 1 tbsp
Hemp seeds - 1tbsp
Instructions:
Add oats, raisins, water, milk and salt into a sauce pan and cook the oatmeal until done.
Once done, scoop it into a bowl and add gulkand while it is hot. The heat activates the essential oils in the roses and also helps melt the sugar in it. Mix well.
Now top with all the toppings and enjoy it warm.
PRAJ'S TIPS:
Buy good quality gulkand. There are a lot of brands out there that add additives and artificial flavors.
You can use any fruit of your choice. Raspberries, bananas, plums would go really well with the gulkand.
If you don't have access to Gulkand, you can use ROSE ESSENCE
